Forest Fire Laws
The current Forest Fire Laws for PA were wrote in 1923
344. Penalty for causing fire on or within woodlot, forset, or wild lands;
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to set fire to, or to cause to be set on fire, either accidentally or otherwise, directly or indirectly, in person or by agent, any woodlot, forest or wild land, or property, material, or vegetation being or growing thereon, without the permission of the owner, either by dropping lighted matches, tobacco, or other substances, or in any other manner whatsoever; or to start fires anywhere and permit them to spread to woodlots, forest, or wild land, thereby causing to or destruction of such property, as foresaid.
371. Definitions
(b) The term "woodlot," "forest," or "wild land," in this act, are intended to include woods, farmers' woodlots, marshes, brush, barrens, brush lands, wild unseated uncultivated land, and any land which has enough inflammable debris to constitute, in judgment of the chief forset fire warden, a menace to life or property.

The Forest Fire Warden
The Forest Fire Warden job can be divided into two major phases of Activity:
* The prevention of forest fires though every available means.
* The Quick control and elimination of forest fires that do occur in spite of prevention measures
The real back bone of the Protection Organization is the local Forest Fire Warden. The local Forest Fire Warden is a State Officer appointed by Department of Conservation and Natural Resources - Bureau of Forestry through the District Warden. He Hold office subject to satisfactory performance of his duties. The Fire Warden's job is to prevent forest fires and to be prepared to control those that do occur. Though prevention and educational work, he tries to eliminate fire from his territory. By Organizing a crew of fire fighters, training them in the methods of fire fighting , and providing transpotation for them, he is ready for fire extinction work when called. On a going fire, he takes charge of his crew and leads them in their attck upon the fire. The Fire Warden is provided with State-owned tool, both he and his men are paid from State funds for actual fire fighting.
In addition to his fire extinction work, the local Fire Warden may be called upon to serve in other capacities for which he is fitted such as Tower Observer, Inspector, Patrolman, Smokechaser, and others.

The Pennsylvania Department of Natural Resources - Division of Forest Fire Protection is responsible for the prevention and suppression of wildfire on the 17,000,000 acres of wildlands throughout the Commonwealth. The Division maintains a fire detection system and works with fire wardens and volunteer fire departments to insure that they are trained in the latest advances in fire prevention and suppression. The Division also enters into partnerships with other state and federal agencies to share knowledge and resources
Operations Section
The Operations Section is responsible for fire suppression, surveillance, and the bureau-wide safe operations of contract aircraft. It provides support for field personnel. It is also responsible for the processing and collection of all fire claims and for providing trained fire suppression personnel for use in other states during wildfire emergencies.
Services Section
The Services Section is responsible for the enhancement of public safety and awareness in wildfire prevention through education, enforcement activities, and the development of new fire technology. The Section conducts special investigations throughout the Bureau as assigned, coordinates the distribution of federal funds and equipment to local fire forces, and acquires federal excess to supplement Bureau fire equipment. The Section maintains warehouse operations.
